Rigamaru is a masthead for the cooperative work of Chris Sasaki and Meghan Jean, two artists living in Oakland, California. We deduced our name from the nonsensical word rigmarole:
• a lengthy and complicated procedure
• a long, rambling story or statement
When we established Rigamaru in 2008, we were both working at a large film studio. We wanted an outlet for our own ideas, however nebulous or meandering they might be, that was unfettered by schedule, theme, or established style. Sometimes our work is a collaboration, and sometimes it is completely individual. There are no hard-and-fast rules. We continue to evolve.
Our goods are made in limited quantities, and occasionally we stock one-of-a-kind objects. We do our best to make use of local or domestic resources in the execution of our work. Ever aware of the material burden of creating and selling more stuff, we utilize organic matter and environmentally friendly processes whenever possible.
